I think the compressor on My chiller is gone. It's been in operation since 2002. Where does one take a chiller to get repaired? May need a new compressor.

It's been staying on for like 4 hours to drop 1 degree. Compressor is loud and not cooling and maintaining the set temperature. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I know we don't just simply throw a chiller away and buy a new 700 dollar chiller.

It's essentially a refrigerator/freezer, so anyone who can repair those should be able to help you out. It may just be that the bearings on the compressor are shot (or soon to be) and so its not doing much but making noise. But I am just guessing right now, so don't take my word for it.

It sounds extremely loud, but I'm still trying to find someone to look at it. However the compressor depending on size range from 100 to 300 online. Tank currently with out it hovers at 84º

    Need help! Please

The chiller is fine. I had the AC guy at work check it out. he said all is good. We believe my tank out grew the chiller. It was only 120G with a 20G sump which was recently changed and removed the 20G and added a 55G. If it's 84º in the tank it takes roughly about 9 to ten hours to bring it down to 79.

So it's cooling just taking a long time to get there. It's a Aquanetics 1/4 hp chiller.
I plan on unplugging a pump see if temp drops on its own. The pump hooked to the chiller runs warm and I recall a fellow 3reefer telling me that heat will transfer from the shaft to the magnet that rotates the impeller. Since the chiller is not running I will try and unplug the pump see what happens.

My question is..... What size hp chiller is recommended by the pro's if I happen to spot a good deal at reefapalooza? If indeed I need a new chiller.

So the guy at work was wrong. The Home AC broke over the weekend Friday night. The tank reached 86º over the weekend. The AC guy fixed the Home AC and I asked him to look at the chiller. He drained everything out and refilled it. The Home AC was covered under warranty the chiller cost me $95 dollars. DAMN! Oh well It's worth having and not having to buy a new one is ok. I will save my chips for a later more efficient model soon. I guess. Tank now at 78º fish are more active. House at 76º wife and kids are happy.

Good to hear. Did he say that should be done after so many years?

Mine was made in 02 I got it used in 04 and it's been running since. Me and a friend from work added Freon but it was way too much. AC Guy said it was over 200 PSI on the high side. Should be at 130 or so and 75 on the low side which should be at 35 PSI. What was happening on my end to begin with is that it would take 8 hours to drop 2 degrees. I dropped from 83 to 79 after just an hour of running once he fixed it. As far as maintenance goes he said just make sure the coils stay clean and it should run for long time. Also keep an eye on how long it runs when its chilling. I put a 12 x 12 air filter in front of the coils to prevent dust from entering it.

Had to upgrade. I had a Berlin Turbo prior and went through about three pumps on it.
