After acclimation for about 2 hours I placed my new wrasse in the tank and he did a vanishing act and buried himself/herself in the crushed coral. "Poof" ...... gone.

I figure this is normal behavior .... am I right?

It is very common for certain Wrasses to bury themselves in the substrate, sometimes for hours. Not to worry though, especially if they are a new aquisition. Also, some Wrasses sleep in the rock work and produce a slime/mucus to protect them.COOL

i think the christmas wrasse is also called the slippery wrasse is what i had mine loved the sandbed and when i traded him i told the fish store guy if he sells him to ask if the buyer had a sand bed. but beware if you got shrimp crabs and snails he might make a meal out of them just like mine did he went thru them like a smorgasboard. they seem very hardy and eat anyting though in a way a good beginner fish. but belong in a semi aggressive to aggressive tank thats if yours is like mine was
