The chromis was in the tank swimming last night. I didnt check this morning but when I came home from work today at about 6 and my chromis was missing. Do they hide for hours at a time? Or could it be dead? My water is good. I just did a full test yesterday.

Have you checked on the floor around/behind your tank?

I wouldn't just yet. Just keep an eye on your levels. I would do baseline tests right now just to see where they are at, then monitor them daily until you find him.

And yes, mine disappeared for a good day hiding in rocks, under them, behind them. I caught him. He would poke his head out then go back when he saw me. Very smart in an elusive way.

Good luck, best wishes, and keep looking, and do those the tests!

What type of filter you have cuz my filter sucked up my neon goby one time and found him in the filter pad and he was still alive!

+1 check filters, overflows, sump, and around the tank. Chromis usually don't jump but i would look anyway. Chromis are a somewhat skittish fish and will hide when they feel threatened. Don't take apart your rock work until the nitrates spike. If they do not spike within the next 2 days and he never re-appears, then your clean up crew cleaned up!

My bet is that he is hiding.

My firefish will hide quite often. Sometimes he will be out for weeks right in the open enjoying life, sometimes he will disappear for a few days. I wouldn't go looking for him.
