i was thinking of putting some chromis in my tank as my first fish as was suggested here on 3reef but a friend of mine said that they were very teritorial.so im wondering what do you all think? i think it would be cool to have a school of fish in my tank but i dont want to run into any trouble later down the road. my friend only had 2 chromis so im not sure if that may be why they became teritorial. she said they attacked her tang. can anyone help with this? i definately want a tang in the future.:-/

I have had chromis since I started my tank. Get a small school of 5-7 and they will swim together rather peacefully. As to attacking a tang, wow is that one wimpy tang. My chromis stay out of both of my tangs' ways. Get them, you'll love them. They are busy, active and out all day. Good luck.

I agree get the bigger school and they will stay to themselves. One or two will become territorial.

Mine are great. They will swim from one end of the tank too the other all day long, rarely hiding in the rock work.
The only draw back to them for me is the small size. Two have gotten through my return system, one lived and one didn't.
Mine are not shy nor are they territorial. Very good tank mates.

In home aquaria fish seldom school or shoal. When they are young, in the average sized tank sure, you will see that behavior, but the vast majority of the time as they mature they will pair of into breeding pairs and stake out territory. In really really large tanks most schooling fish will still form up. At least from what I've read, correct me if I'm wrong. Can't hurt to give it a go though, especially if you like chromis!!!!!!!

Well mine have never ever ever given me any territorial trouble at all.
Maybe a little tagging game here and there but that's normal within eachother.
I love my 8 chromis. Very active, peaceful, and cool.
