Important question I didn't see ask, how big of a tank. Usually what happens is that a large group will get two dominate fish that will take out the others, you are usually left with just two. Keeping a large group is the exception, not the norm.

Hey, just wanted to throw my two cents in. I have a ten gallon tank and Pet Supplies Plus sold me a Bumble Bee Chromis, also known as a Behn's Damsel fish, to help break in the tank. Later I added two clownfish and he terrorized the heck out of them up until a few weeks ago when I bought a tank divider. I bought a cleaner shrimp back in May and it died after only a few days for apparently no reason.(See my thread "Sick Cleaner Shrimp".) Another local pet store said it was possible that the chromis stressed the cleaner shrimp out. I think that is extremely likely because as soon as I added the shrimp he went on a piece of live rock which the chromis thinks he "owns". The chromis would dart at the cleaner shrimp. He also was responsible for some ripped fins on my clownfish. My point is because he was added first he thinks he "owns" the tank. If you really want chromis one thing you could do is to add them last or at the same time as your other fish. That way maybe they won't be too territorial. I hope that this helps you out some!

That depends on the chromis. Blue/green chromis, yellow stripe chromis, blue reef chromis have been added first and other fish later and no problems out of them. Them schooling also brought the other fishes out. The only downfall is the yellow striped and blue reef chromis are more aggressive than the blue/green ones. I say again this is only an opinion and what I have witnessed from my own personal tank and others.

i agree the blue green chromis i have had in tanks have been peaceful. at times they chase each other around. but dont seem to mess with the other fish. they do some thing that looks like they are kissing which is cute. im guessing they arent kissing though...lol

I have had kissing chromis too. They are about your safest reef fish really. Very peaceful and active. A definite benefit to the water column.

i have apparently a 115g tank. i was told it was a 125 when i bought it but never the less would adding 7 or 8 blue green chromis be too much for my tank? i want an engineer goby and a couple tangs and clowns too. but not sure if this is ok.

Thank you for bringing the subject up...I was thinking of adding them to my 125 as well...lots of great information. Not to highjack but will the blue/green chromis school with the blue reef chromis or will red and purple firefish school together? or will they all stay with their own?

That would be just fine. Dont know if they are going to be the first fish or somewhere in the beginning would be fine. That stocking would be fine. With engineer gobies, hopefully you have all your rock down first then sand because they do alot of digging and could topple your rock.

they may territorial but there only 2 inches and can not really do any damage to a tang
