    Most likely for the Chromis to school they need to be of the same species and also it is best to buy them all from the same tank in the fish store. It is not easy to get them to school. Red and purple firefish and not likely partners. In my experience my red firefish picks on the larger purple firefish. May not be such an issue in your larger tank.
