So lately I've kinda been wanting to give up smoking! I know how awful it is for me, and after 10 years of being an off/on again smoker, I'm feeling the effects! I just know how hard it is, and I don't really want to quit, I just feel like I need to. And I heard really wanting to quit is the only way you will get through it. Because I like smoking, I just don't like the health risks :p

I'm rambling, but if anyone of you have experiences or advice, I'm all ears

There are prescriptions meds that really work. I don't know much about them though.

But you can do it! And you should WANT to. I mean - just read about the health risks. If those don't make you want to quit, I don't know what will. Plus, wrinkly skin...yellow teeth...the smell. Yuck. Do it for yourself!

Also - think of all the money you waste on cigarettes.

I quit 3 times, and it took me having a kid to finalize it! Too skinny and lazy to go outside in the cold to smoke, plus it was just time. But you're right, i don't think you'll be successful unless you really want it. Ohio gives out free patches though, 1 800 quit now, i believe.

here's something to help though, do the math on your smoking. for instance, i was at about 10-14 packs a week. at todays rate, lets say your at 10 a week, thats $60 a week, $260 a month. What i did, is every morning put that money into a jar, then every 3 to 6 months, used that money to buy me a cool toy i wanted but normally would not waste the money on! i began to look forward to such toys and it really helped. With this hobby, imagine the possibilities!

i used champix, had some odd dreams and so started taking it at 5pm.
Otherwise i am 13 months clean tomorrow and i couldnt be happier, the only thing i would say is . . . . . . . . . . . .im embarrassed at how easy it was, and 8 of my mates have also used champix and are still not smoking

    Good Luck

thanks! I do want to, but I've wanted to for a year and haven't stopped yet. Gotta really commit myself somehow

good idea on putting the money in a jar! I was only about half a pack a day for years, but getting a second job where I drive a lot has upped that to a pack a day the past year. Also a lot of my friends smoke, and my roommate and girlfriend do too. That makes it seem like an uphill battle

Congrats on 7 years!! Thats awesome

Congrats! I've heard of that stuff, I think its called Chantix here. The odd dreams and side effects kinda scared me away, but I'm gonna read more into it.

yeah, wait till you taste food again! trust me you'll be amazed. the money in the jar just mentally helps, you see it and it gives you a goal to aim towards and a toy to reward yourself for. who says we aren't animals? pavlov dog experiment but on yourself!lol
