I currently have 4 Koralia 1's in my tank. What I don't like about them is the darn covers come off so easily. I like the design of the VorTech MP10's, but it seem difficult to avoid dead spots without multiple powerheads.... at the Vortech cost it seems prohibitive to get multiple powerheads.

I have a 120 gallon mixed reef with an island of live rock... several inches swimming space on all sides.

Optimally, I'd like to get a good clockwise-alternating counter clockwise flow around the island and avoid dead spots.

Ideas on a cost effective way to implement 'good flow and circulation here???

Not so happy with Koralia, Vortech seems too much....

The new koralias are amazing. I would give two of the 1400's a try. Thats what I ran on my 75 without a hitch. I also ran mine on a wavemaker which I am sure your Aquacontroller can do just fine.

well M... the thing is that you really kinda have to stick with those choices.
You can get the quality and pay more, or settle for cheap and go with the k's
    Tunze is overpriced IMO.

Is closed loop an option? or maybe an oceans motions?

Also I think an MP10 would be way to small for a 120. Bare minimum would be MP20 but even then you would be pushing it at max..

I started on a closed loop and scewed up the design. Ticked me off when I installed it and hadn't thought it through enough. I need to get some circulation in there because I am getting some cyano...

Do the new Koralia's covers come off as easy of the K1's???

No they are actually clipped into place rather than twisted on. They really have been great to me.. Plus you could get 2 1400evo and pair that with a wavemaker JBJ Ocean Pulse Wavemaker
    and have a great tank.

I've already got the 4 plug version of the Ocean Pulse wavemaker.... I like the clips MUCH better. I'll go with the Evo's.

So.... given I have 4 K1's.... how many Evo 1400's do I need??? Just two?? or two each direction and alternate???

Hmm. Since you have the Quadra, you have some more options. If I were in your shoes and starting fresh I would get four 750 evo and make the currents as random with that wave maker as you could. I don't know how mixed your tank is though.

I am personally thinking of getting two 425 to supplement my 1400s as they swith back and forth to create some nice swirling currents around my corals. Example, running a 1400 and 425 for 30 seconds then switching to the other pair for another 30 seconds.

I have 2 K 1s in my 38g tank, and I have 4 EVO 750s for my 75g tank on a Red Sea Wavemaker Pro. I really think 4 750s won't be enough on your 120g. How much is enough? I don't know, but I'd shoot for at least 40x tank turnover (including your return pump). So maybe 4 1050s. Remember, they won't be running all of the time if you use the Wavemaker, so what seems like a little too much would probably be just right.
