I am thinking 4 1400's and 4 K1's with the 1400's on the wavemaker. WIth that I'd have 2 1400's and 4 K1's on at any one time... that seems a bit much and therefore probably about right.....

    Thoughts?

I like it as it gives you about 37x tank turnover without including your return pump. And if you end up thinking it's too much, you can just remove a couple of the K1's.

Wait, you guys are still using these? How many pumps have burned out on you? I've gone through several of these with no luck. With the last one it seemed like my flow was getting slower and slower so I put it on 100 and didn't see much difference. When I plugged my pumps in directly it was a crazy improvement.

I have owned many oldstyle Koralias including K1, K3 and multiple K4's and never had a cover come off? Are you sure you are rotating the front on all the way until it locks in place?

The new Koralias Evolutions are a big improvement, they are much smaller, draw less than half the power (A true measured 6w for the 1400 GPH version), have a better mounting system (quieter) and are designed for wavemaker, timer or controller use unlike the old K series (No rattling or chattering). I use two of the Evo 1400's in my 60" 100 gallon and they are the first powerheads to move sand at the far end of the tank! I also have a closed loop powered by a OR3500 through a Oceans Motions Squirt two way and I am considering eliminating the closed loop and using the Squirt on my return pump eliminating 58 watts or power usage 24/7/365.
