cleaning LR in DT

    i notice when i add water to the dt i get all kinds of floatties. do i need to clean the rocks and if so how? are there snails that can help or other critters? its just annoying to see stuff floating all over the place.

    Use a turkey baster on your LR before a water change. This way you'll not only be cleaning off the rock but removing the floaties too. I do it at every WC.

    how fast are you adding water and do you have any flow in the tank?

    i add water almost every other day and i try to pour it in slow. my wife on ther other hand just dumps it in. i have 2 powerheads and the return from sump for flow.

    i have a 55g i have some snails and crabs.

    and your adding water causes that much disturbance? Is this for water changes only or top offs? I'd use nanareefers turkey baster idea and then add water slower so you don't have and parameter swings too quick!

    may be a good idea to do them a little more slowly or more often so you don't have a swing in param's! personally i use an airline hose to syphon in my topoffs!
