it depends, if I haven't left the house and haven't used chemicals or done much, I'll put my hands straight in (if I'm going to be handling things, I wear latex gloves).

if I've been using chemicals (windex, simple green, bleach, lube, etc.), if I can at all help it, I won't put my hands in that day. This is probably along the lines of lucky socks on game day.

if i've left the house (so my hands have been exposed to flyingspaghettimonster knows what), I wash thoroughly with an antibacterial and rinse very very thoroughly.

one other thing I'll note, if I see I need my hands in there... I'll usually just make a note in the notepad of what needs to be done. Barring an emergency situation, I let the list get kind of long first. Really only because I try to keep my oily hands out of the tank as much as possible and limit exposure.

I rinse then pull on a disposable gauntlet which goes to my shoulder. I buy them from the Vet @ $10 per box of 250 and cattlemen/pig farmers use them for when they have to reach inside thier livestock.

I just rinse with very warm water with no soap, then wash with antibacterial soap afterwords.I also wait awhile to put my hands in if i had used soap shortly before and then still rinse again before i do.

I spray my hands with lysol and while it is air drying I apply a generous amount of purell hand sanitizer, then dig right in. ;D;D

Actually I just rinse with warm water and towel dry them.
