so i found a used 120g tank with a nice cherry stand /canopy. is basically everything ive been looking for a crazy good price. the only issue is its drilled for a closed loop, and im clueless on if thats something i want. Ive started reading on them, but its always nice to get peoples experiences. any pro/cons to closed loop considering i already have wavemaker

less $$ spent on powerheads + more options IMO. its a good thing... read up on it to take full advantage of it. are you sure its not an open loop (DT to sump)

I've heard pro's and cons. But i went ahead with the CL set up on my soon to be reef. It eliminates inernal pumps and gives an overall appearance of a clean look. From what i understand your head pressure will be calculated from the holes that would feed the pump to the holes of the return side. With that in mind i valved my outfeed side of the CL pump to create a little back pressure to extend the life of my pump.

I am researching building a 200+ gallon tank now. Only issues I've read are maintenance and cleaning. I am planning on going closed loop.

yea it has holes drilled for closed loop, and more in built in overflow for going to sump. closed loop is only for circulation in this case i believe.

I thought on a closed loop that you had an overflow to the sump separately and a closed loop system for circulation. The inputs could be anywhere and the outputs as well. Specifically, I am planning a gyre circulation scheme and the inputs to the closed loop would not be a overflow.

Maybe I am confused on something

Thats how I interput an aquarium "Closed Loop". Intake and output to pump separate from sump. Used for water circulation.
