I just added livestock and rock to my tank, someone was shutting thier tank down so i bought all of her live rock, few softies, a blue hippo, longnose butterfly, two nemos, and a white tail damsel. The move went sucsessful, the fish were doing fine. The blue hippo has ich but almost cured with garlic xtreme. I did a water change last night, woke up this morning and my tank is very cloudy, just wonder what could of caused and how to get rid. thank you

    hey Mitch

thats a lot of things to add to a tank in one go IMO and as such the cloudy water is possibly a bacteria bloom, as the bacteria you have basically exploded in terms of population in reaction to the increased bioload

if thats the case, it will clear up on its own accord, once th bacteria on your rock, sand, fuge etc have adapted / increased so that they can process your new bioload

If it where me, Id run a full set of parameter checks, including ammonia and Nitrite, just in case the increase in bioload outpaces the bacteria colonisation , as you dont want to cause problems with either the new or your existing live stock

What is your calcium level ? Is the tank cloudy or is it snowing from the calcium precipitating out of solution. If it clouds after water changes only – how long does it stay cloudy ? Please post your complete tank parameters – I am wondering if your DKH is off, along with others. What salt mix do you use?
