Ever since I add my cleaner pack, one of my clowns has been acting strange. Its been swimming at the bottom of the tank, always touching the sand. And he usually stays in the the same little spot on the bottom. It's been almost two days now. He didn't even come to the opposite side of the tank when I fed them, he just let it come to him.

    Maybe ok

    HI,
I ve seem my clowns pretend like they have a sea anemone and will hang in one spot moving up and down like they are in one.
He may have decided that one spot is his and is protecting his spot. Againts those bloody intruders the cleaners...
My burgand clowns do this and will not even budge to feed.
Like they have eggs behind he rock and they are afraid to leave them, it may be instinctive in clowns for them to do this, even though they haven't been mating or laying eggs. Its possiable they have OCD... hehe

Ha-ha! Y'know, I was wondering about that. It's like he had an invisible anemone. I hope that's all it is.

As long as it is eating and not acting strangely, then it should be fine.

Clowns are funny...in a weird way. My two use to sleep together and hang out all the time above a powerhead(hosting) and now they fight more often than not, the little one has started hangin out in my finger leather and the other one (larger) still prefers the powerhead. My smaller clown has even started going after mini bubbles in the tank...either for fun or thinkin it's food.

Well, that clown died yesterday. I thought it was fine because it would stay near the bottom some days, and swim around the others. Finally it was laying on its side barely hanging on and by morning it was being passed around by the clean-up crew. Does having an anemone help them survive any better than without one?

Their is no concrete evidence proving that a clown's success is connected to the symbiotic relationship with an anemone host! I have seen Clowns though living in captivity for years with no ill effect from not havign an anemone to call home and protect it...
My Cinnamon clown is happy to have a forest of Xenia to offer it a safe haven...who knows!
