Maroon. If someone gets near his anemone (aside from the coral beauty) he will chase them away. He even nipped my blenny for coming close by - now everyone knows to leave him, and his anemone, alone. However, when he's out looking for food or swimming away from the anemone, he's friendly with everyone. Maroons are a bit more aggressive than other species. One of them (definitely get wild caught) would put your engineer in it's place, especially if he hosts with an anemone.

tough to say but give it a shot and see what happens - once paired to the anemone the goby will stay away

Found this regarding carpet's and their clowns:

Stichodactyla gigantea, Giant Carpet Anemone - Tentacles longer than other carpet anemones, and slightly pointed at tips. May be blue, turquoise or purple in color. Hosts Clark's, Ocellaris, and True Percula clowns.

    S. haddoni, Haddon's Carpet, Saddle Carpet Anemone - Tentacles almost always two colors, imparting a mottled appearance. Hosts Saddleback and Clark's clownfishes.

    S. mertensi, Merten's Carpet, Sri Lanka Carpet - Tentacles stubby, knob-like, uniform brown or occassionally bright green in color. Hosts Clark's and Ocellaris clownfishes.

I have heard that the sting from a carpet is more powerful, so be careful.

    - other anemone's and their clowns:

Entacmaea quadricolor, Bulb, Bubble-Tip or Maroon Anemone - Tentacles inflated at tips, with white band and pink tip (usually). Red or pink form called Rose Anemone. Attaches to hard surface. In nature hosts Maroon and Bluestrip clownfishes. In aquarium will also host Tomato and Clark's clownfishes, also. Can be propagated in captivity. The best choice for hobbyist aquariums.

Macrodactyla doreensis, Long Tentacle Anemone - Column always red or salmon pink, with veruccae underneath oral disk. Buries column in substrate. Seldom confused. Natural symbionts are Clark's and Pink Skunk clownfishes; in aquarium often accepted by Maroon, Bluestripe and Tomato clowns, as well.
- edit - You may want to get a wild caught clown fish. Tank raised sometimes take longer to host, and some never will.
Bought a juvenile O clown and a GBTA a year ago...he has not gone near it...I thought it was a genetic imprint...But obviously tank raised do not have a clue.

2nd lily's grandad. i put in a green BTA in my 75 gal, then 2 clowns about 4 months ago. since then the bta's grown so much that it split. the clowns have no interest in either of them.

are there anenome that are better for smaller tanks in general?

    Info..

The LFS in my area said that Nemos will most likely always like the Bubble Tips. They said that sometimes if you even put a picture of an anemone hosting a clown up to the glass they will figure it out...not sure but I am willing to try.

I have 2 clowns...(tomatos?) they are orange with one white stripe and thier insides look black. One is way bigger. The anemone we have is a condylactis so I guess it does not host.

I am going to get a BT soon, so I will keep you posted!!!
