Possibly to be the more dominant of the pair. But some clowns don't get along with others ever, and some clowns do. they are funny fish that are hard to predict.

how big is the new clown compared to the old guy! IMO, you're gonna be lucky if they decide to get along, especially with an established yellowtail to stir things up! I'd have the lights turned off and then watch tomorrow! chances are they're gonna look like they fight alot for a bit! Clowns are goofy fish! But if this guy is alot smaller than the OG clown, there may be issues! Maybe rearrange your rockwork so the fish have to reestablish their territory! i'd watch the yellowtail more than the clown though!IMO

I've always been told that especially with clowns you have to introduce the pair together or you might have a problem. Good luck.

That is correct- the easiest way to get a pair to get along is to introduce 2 juvies together. Even then you will have some degree of violence as they mature and the female begins establishing dominance over the male.

If the attacks reach the point that the new one starts showing signs of being bullied, or if the older one chases him relentlessly, you may need to remove the larger one for a couple of weeks and rearrange the rockwork. Still no guarantee, but it does often work.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !

    This is excellent advice.

You can also either put the new one in a clear breeder box, or put the large female in the sump for a few days.

Curious what type of clown is this? Maroons, Tomato and Clarkii seem to be the most trouble some.

This is exactly what happened to me last week, same tank, about the same fish and the same problem. They use to be great, at times share the same sleeping space. And from one day to the next one which is the one that grew slightly bigger started bullying the other one. Resulted in a loss.
