About a week back I got two clowns (one big, one small so they would be a pair and not fight) and a BTA. yesterday evening when feeding they were both very happy and active. This morning though I see that the bigger one is nowhere to be seen. I am hoping that it's hiding somewhere in the rocks and is not dead. I can't see a dead body anywhere!! Wondering if it is normal for them to hide. The two clowns get along very well and also with the BTA very well. Everynight they sleep in the BTA and are near it all the time. The water params look good
    pH 8.4
    NH4/NH3+ <0.25
    NO2 0.01 ~ 0.025
    NO3 0
Any insights will be greatly appreciated. This is a 66 gal tank with about 120 pounds of live rock about 1.5 months old. All the other corals etc. seem fine as well (I have a leather, mushroom, some zoas and a plate coral). The cleaner shrimps seem fine as well.

Never mind. Now it's back out and swimming around. It's still curios though that it hid like that.

That's good! I was just getting ready to reply. I'm glad all is well.

No idea. Seems odd for a clown. Mine generally don't spend time near the rocks. They pretty much live in their "corner" - I guess they "host" the corner of the tank. That's where they sleep at night too. I wish I had an answer for you. I was going to tell you to check around the tank to make sure it didn't jump out. I would think that would be odd for a clown, but then I had a coral beauty jump out once.

Actually I did check around the tank (even though I have a closed canopy and it's next to impossible for the fish to jump out), since in the past I have found several licking my floors :)

They will hide at the base of an anemone, which will make it very hard to find. They are like people, sometimes they just want to be alone.

think they might be about to lay eggs, and the clown just made a good hiding spot?
