I have a percula clown that has been in the tank since I started it a year and a half ago. It has never taken to any anemones. I purchase a much smaller maroon clown and I think a bubble tip anemone a couple of weeks ago. So the maroon has been safe in the anemone until today. The Percula realized it can go in the anemone and it has been beating up the maroon pretty badly. I used to have African Cichlids, and the brutality this percula is handing out is as bad as any fish on fish violence I've ever seen. I read somewhere putting the aggresive fish in some kind of clear receptacle for a while might help. I'm contemplating taking all of the fish out and moving all the rocks around. That used to work with my cichlids. The maroons fins are chewed up pretty badly. He's in a net at the top of the tank right now.

are they fighting because they are both clowns or because they both want the anemone or a combination of both. I also have a sebae anemone in there. What if I try and coax the maroon clown into the sebae anemone?

They are fighting because they are both clowns and are very very territorial. How large is your tank? I don't think any amount of rock rearranging will help. I think you'll have to end up taking one out. Trying to coax a clown into a nem is really hit or miss. It more up to them as to when and what they want to host.

with a perc and a maroon one has to go unless your tank is like 10 feet long if the perc doesnt kill the maroon the maroon will get bigger and kill the perc for sure there very agressive species lucky that it is smaller than the perc or it would be dead already i have tried it before man.

i would think , with them being different species of clowns , they dont like each other. same as putting 2 tangs with the same body shape in together, they dont get along very well , unless its a very big tank. personally i would take one of them back to the lfs , and get another of the same species. they you should see some harmony.

So one has to go. This is a tough decision. I like this little maroon clown, but I've had the Percula since the beginning, and it is a survivor. The good news is the maroon clownfish has since moved into the sebae anemone. So things are ok for the moment. At least the maroon taught this percula to like anemones. So this isn't a total loss.
