Hey guys, so I've had my pair of ocellaris clowns for about a year now. Even though they've been together for a year now and I assumed they were paired, they still fight and the male still spazzes. I just caught the female biting off a couple of his fins. I separated them and place the male in a different tank. I just bought a black male ocellaris (smaller than female) and hope to make them pair. My question is, how log did it take your clowns to pair up? And when they did, how do they act? Are they always by each others side? Let me know, thanks.

....this is a difficult question to answer, but my most recent experience is with a black and white ocellaris and Onyx Percula. they have been together roughly 2 months and are fine. Sometime I catch the B&W messing with the male Onyx, but I have seen that with tons of mating pairs.

I am confused by your plan though....how big is your current male, and also how big is your current female??

The black ocellaris I picked from a group of others that were in the same tank as he was. I made sure he wasn't the largest, therefore he was a male. The female I have at the moment is twice the size of the male

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
When I had my black and white pair, every once in awhile the female would get very aggressive, she would literally swim around with the males fins locked in her mouth and then she would let go. The male was always submissive yet the female just felt the need sometimes to let him have it. This happened a couple times a year and they always worked it out.

There are situations when a female will find a male unacceptable and she will kill him, this can happen out of the blue.
