I have never owned a trigger, so hopefully someone more knowledgeable can chime in. I have to think he is getting close though. A 5-6" tang is questionable in a 55, so I have to figure it would be about the same for triggers given their active nature.

Would a trade at my LFS for a Flame Angel or a Flame Hawkfish be a good deal for my Clown Trigger? On that note can I house a Flame Angel with a Coral Beauty Angel? I think I'm going for the Flame Hawkfish anyway. I need to put something in there with character if I'm taking out my buddy!

I would not do two Dwarf Angels in a 55. A member recently had his Flame Angel beaten up by his Coral Beauty and/or Rusty Angel. And that was in a 125. Multiple dwarf angels in a tank generally does not end well.

Flame Hawkfish would be the better choice, providing you don't have any smaller fish. ;) They will eat any fish that can get in their mouths.

Here is a recent thread on them: http://www.3reef.com/forums/tropical-fish/flame-hawkfish-148708.html

I love triggers! The clowns are probably IMO one of the most beautiful salt water fish out there. I understand why you are hesitant to let go but you are demonstrating very responsible husbandry by asking questions and wanting to do what's right. I tend to stay more on the edge in terms of bioload and fish keeping and I'm sad to say that he does need to go pretty soon. I've never kept a clown but have read they can become very aggressive and he may soon be able to eat your other fish :(

I have a lyretail hawkfish and love it! I've never kept a flame but they are very cool fish with a ton of personality. I remember a while back, a hobbyist was posting pics of some algae or something they were concerned about and his flame hawkfish kept dive bombing every single picture.

As Marshall said, probably not do the two dwarfs but a coral beauty and flame hawkfish would be great additions to your tank. A lot of variety of color with those two types imo. Oh, and look at the potter's angel too as far as color goes....

Thanks for all the input. My LFS has a huge tank set up once you walk into the store and the first thing you see is a Flame Hawkfish perched up on a rock at eye level. I refer to him as the guard dog for the store. I'm going in there and see what I can do today. I already have the Coral Beauty, the same LFS sold him to me for $10.

Sounds like a plan. As mentioned, I have never owned a Hawkfish, but I do find them fascinating :)

Went to my LFS yesterday. This is like finding a new home for my dog! They have a 300gal set up that he is going into when I trade him tomorrow. He is not going back up for sale either!!! I worked a deal for a Flame Hawkfish and some live rock. I pick up the Flame Hawkfish tomorrow. I'll post up a pic once the new guy is settled in
