    Hi,

I have one False Percula Clown and one Springer's Damsel in my 37 gallon tank. My tank is new so I'm not planning on adding any new fish for about 3 more weeks, but I'm wondering what type of fish would be compatible with my current fish? I do prefer fish with bright colors...

    Thank you for any suggestions!!

Here's a fish compatibility chart from liveaquaria.com. This is a decent starting place. In your position, I'd first consult the chart, make a tentative decision, then post questions on the forum to see if anyone has specific experience with the fish you choose.

    Good luck! :)

I would honestly not add many more... I know it sounds like a bummer but here is why... Little water volume... TERRITORIAL fish esp the damsel and aggression. The clown can get somewhat aggressive, trust me. I have ocellaris bite my fingers when I feed them, granted they are not as aggressive as other fish they aren't all docile like Nemo was in the movies. The damsel will also bully most newcomers to the tank.

What I would do is plan on getting a scrappy little fish and calling it a day with 3 or 4 fish in the tank. Many dottybacks would fit the bill. A nice Neon aka Arabian dottyback will add a splash of color and will be able to defend itself versus the damsel. Also many dottybacks are tank raised by ORA in Florida, BIG plus!!

A small six line wrasse is an option but like swimming room so if your tank is super packed with rocks he might not appreciate it. If going with a wrasse I would stick to the six line as they stay fairly small compared to others....

I definitely prefer tank raised, so I will look into the Arabian dottyback. I am only planning on 1 or 2 more small fish, that's why I'm so nervous about making my choice! I want to make sure I pick the right ones since I have such limited space.

What about a yellow clown goby? They are so cute, but I'm worried the clown and damsel will traumatize the poor thing and it won't come out to eat and starve. I've read a lot of horror stories about gobies starving!

Clown goby would not be a good choice. Not aggressive enough to handle those other two. You may look into a pixie hawkfish they tend to be smaller and not overly aggressive. The dottyback is a great idea as well.

I'm sure this idea will probably get shot down, but what about a flame angelfish? The guy at my local shop said if I got a small one I could keep it for about 3 years before it got too big...would one of those be able to hold it's ground against the clown and damsel?

And, what about a royal dottyback?
