You actually want to go to the Run option on yoiur start menu. Click it, and enter 'msconfig' into the box. Hit OK, and you'll get the msconfig program. Thats where the Startup tab is. Under that tab, you'll see all the programs started when you boot the computer, along with checkboxes to deselect them. If you've come this far, you already know more than 90% of computer users....

Nearly everything can go away, but I'd keep anything that mentions Spool or Print... those allow your print manager to function in parallel with other programs. Not knowing what plethora of items you have attached to your system, I can't say what functionality you'd lose. In my case, I have about 18 programs running, and they all help things like my mouse, keyboard, scanner, bluetooth hub, etc. utilize their special functions.

    Good work szaijan :)

I was thinking about my work PC with the C/A/D keys. As soon as I got home I realised.

i see this thread is a week old so i dont know if im late or not.

if the system restore doesn't work i have a few suggestions.

does your pc seem to be slow both on & offline or just online? try running adaware and or spybot to remove any spywares on your pc if being online creates the problem. also check to see how much RAM your machine has installed. right click 'my computer' and select 'properties' the chipset & RAM should be at the lower right of the general tab window. most machines come with 128Mb which really isnt enough imho. www.crucial.com is a great online source for memory. they will tell you what type of mem you need and how much your MoBo will support. i suggest maxing out your RAM as you can never have too much memory. if you can't afford to do that then upgrade to at least 512Mb.

another thing to look at (well actually listen for) is unusual noise from the Hard Drive. i've had HD's crap out after 6 months. a noisy HD is usually a sign of a dying HD.

also... have you run an updated version of anti-virus lately? theres alot of nasty little buggers flying around these days.
