Hey I just put a little condy anenome in my tank and it has crawled under a rock to the point where it looks stuck between the rock and the substrate. I've read these things can produce a toxin and kill my tank when they die.

I'm wondering if it's gotten itself stuck under the rock and is now going to die, its not getting super water flow either. Or will it eventually move about to a spot in the tank that it's comfortable in

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
I would give it more time. Anemones may move to an area of less intense lighting while acclimating to your specific lighting fixture. Moving to a shaded area is not a common sign of demise for an anemone.

    Things to be concerned about

    Floating anemone
Anemone with a gaping oral opening.
Ability to see stringy matter (mesenterial filaments)either from the oral opening or areas of tissue injury.
A detectable ammonia level in the presence of an anemone.

Thank you Corailline. I'll make sure to keep an eye out for that although the LFS that I choose to go to has very healthy and happy livestock, unlike the other 90% of the LFS in my area ( I live in the mountains )

Also I have never had a detectable ammonia level in my tank, I treat this tank better than a child and so my water conditions are pretty superb. ( or at least as good as it can get for using a 29g Biocube without a skimmer ) ::)

What lighting regiment would you recommend? There is nothing else really in this tank and I am using 2x 35w 10,000k actinic and white lighting. Actinic is set for 7 hours and the white is on for 3 or 4 hours. Anything more than that seems to overheat my tank causing me to either leave the lid open or throw in some ice cubes

I am sorry I can not speak to your lighting fixture, as I have not had anemones under that type of lighting.

I will say this though, that Condy and BTA do not need the same intense lighting that other anemones require.

In the image of the anemone, it does not appear bleached (a loss of zooxanthellae). The distance the fixture from the sand bed will also play a large part. Typically and anemone such as a Condy will move to the walls of the tank as close to the light as it can get and appear to be reaching for the light if the lighting is insufficient.

Thank you, ya I've had difficulties finding proper lighting instructions. Most people just talk about the Kelvin and wattage ratings or the type of lighting but hardly do I come across the specific timing

Thanks again Corailline for the hasty responce

I had a RBTA under PC lighting for 3 months... assuming the Condy is similar, I'm sure you'll be fine with feeding it some times even with PC lighting. With that said, towards the end of the 3 months, it was moving a bit... and now that it's under LED lighting, it almost never moves.

Ya you can take lighting as far as your wallet will allow. I plan on using some of my financial aid to purchase a MH ballast, just not sure if I'll need a lid or not. I only plan on 3 fish, a small clown, a yellow damsel, and a mandarin. I'm currently working on setting up a small pod tank even though my pod population is already out of control

Just as a heads up... the Condy can eat clowns
