so i just got a deal on a hamilton clamp on 150w MH lamp for my 37g, im realizing how frigin hot these things get, plug in play as is (no fan integrated in the lamp) it raised my water temp 5 deg and put me at 81 deg. there is a heater in my fuge that i shut off for now.

i was curious what diy fan setups you guys have done on an open top with out it looking too ugly... worst case i suck it up and buy a chiller.. although i wouldnt like to right now

Try running a fan across the sump. It will be out of the way and work well. Your evaporation will really increase, but that's not too hard to deal with.

I have the same type of light, you can mount a fan between the legs of the light. It will blow the heat away from the tank water surface. You will get increased evaporation though.
