Hi again! I'm treating some fish in my QT with chelated copper and am thinking about changing to cupramine when the chelated runs out. I got a Salifert test kit but don't care for it. Can anybody recommend a copper test kit that has worked well for them?

    Thanks!

Thanks for the bump. Doesn't look like many treat with copper. This Salifert kit I got is just junk. the regeant turns blue, but then it stained the plastic vial that came with it. How do you get an appropriate reading off of that?!? ::)

I bought an API copper test kit a few weeks ago was happy with the results. It was around $7.00 US and supposedly is good for 90 tests. The kit comes with a glass test tube with plastic top, reagent, color card, and directions. The directions are easy to follow and I assume that it is fairly accurate. I mostly use API tests and have been very happy with them. Hope this helps or maybe someone else will chime it.

Thanks omgiv! My multi-test kit is API. I like them for the most part too except sometimes I have a hard time matching the colors on the pH test. Very hard to tell the diff btwn 7.8 & 8.4 even though that's a big step. I read a review on the API copper test where the user thought the readings were way off. That was only 1 user though, so who knows. At that price, may be worth checking out!

Just remember that not all kits will test accurately for chelated copper. Make sure you get one that does.

    Good thinking, thanks! (+1)

Omgiv, do you know if the API test goes up to 1.5-2.0?

I agree completely with the Ph test. The only other test I have used for Ph was an Instant Ocean and it was worse. Do you have one that you like better? I just checked the API sheet and it says that it reads the level of total copper (free and chelated). Hope that helps!!!!

I have used Hagen in the past and thought it was okay, but that was years ago when I was just starting. I've heard good things about Instant Ocean, and when my multi-kit runs out I think I'm going to try Red Sea.
