They are generally the most reef safe of the butterflies, however may developte a taste for clams and LPS corals.

They are also difficult to keep :-/. I was planning on hosting one, but decided not to due to some of the comments I received and information I read up on. They are beautiful butterfly fish indeed, just make sure it is eating well before you buy it as they are well known to be picky eaters and usually starve. Other than that, they are "reef safe", but you'll ultimately just have to see on whether or not it will pick at anything in your tank.

Also if you have any aptaisia problems they will make quick work of them which is great. I believe they like to eat pods too, so having a population of them is nice.

    Good luck!

From what I read, you have less than a 50% success rate.

    Here's fishlore's link on them:

Copperband Butterfly Fish - Chelmon rostratus

Fish Lore is typically a little more pessimistic on fish but still they do make it a point that this is an expert level fish. Either way, you need to make up your own mind on whether or not to try to get it. The best recommendation I can give, is to at least wait 6 months or more for the tank to get established before hosting it.

thanks for the info i may just wait and see after my tanks established(1 year) before i consider it the only thing that mainly steers me away from them is that they nip at coral
