Looks like some sort of algae to me, does it feel slimy or wiry?

That is why I chose the word "bristle". Very stiff brush-like. On the return plastic nozzle, it is a hard mat that can be scraped off in patches but on the rock it is almost impossible to remove.

    Anyone else??

There's a species of asparagopsis with that texture....however, it's usually redder

I looked that up Curt and that's not it. It is more Brownish-Red, the pic is of it high up and bleached a bit.

Oh well, no one knows again. I guess it is a coral or macro algae.
