Hello everyone, I would like your input on my Frog Spawn. You will see in the before and after pics that the two heads on the bottom (as it sits) are not extending like the rest of it. The after photo here was taken a few minutes ago and has some extension but as the day goes on it really pulls the polyps almost all the way in. The only thing I changed pysically was I went to LEDs in the front but still have 2 T5s in the back. I thought maybe now it is a lighting issue. What do you think? Thank you in advance.

Could there be something on the rocks bothering it? It could be light but I think the other polyps would be reacting similarly.

I had seen similar with my Hammer coral which was basically 5 heads (branches) all joined
and normally all where open, or all closed
then on one occasion one of the heads started closing during daytime, but by the following day it was back to normal

whats below that coral in your tank? has something below, grown to a point its now able to irritate it?

could something have bumped into it causing the localised retraction?

I did think of these things you both mention and have looked and really don't see anything. I was thinking of re-positioning it to allow it to be more upright, what do you think.

Does your tank need a water change? My hammer and frogspawn tell me when it's time to do a water change - they are pretty sensitive.

Just did a water change a few days ago.

LEDs added about 2 months ago.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
A couple things come to mind.

Do you feed this coral ?

How polished would you say the water is, and do you have any leathers or other soft corals ?

Since the coral seems to be declining I would consider different placement with in the tank, with the polyps not facing upwards but a an angle or horizontal.
