Thought i would share this. I have had this Colt Coral for over 2 years. It started out about 4"-5" tall and maybe 5" across. It was connected to a small "anchor" or base. When I placed it in the area it is now in the 55 gal. it seemed to like it there and has thrived, as you can see. Along the way though I have increased the flow over time and the coral would list to one side or another. I let it be to see if it would adapt. It listed back and forth for months and then one day I noticed it was standing fairly straight. When I looked closer, it had attached itself to the rock work in two places, barely, but none-the-less it had attached. Since that time it has shed the anchor completely and fully attached (grown) onto the rock. Quite something, really.

I think we often overlook how intelligent and hardy some of the corals are that we keep in our glass boxes!

Thanks for sharing Unclejed. Very healthy looking Colt!

I've got a colt doing the same thing. It's migrated a good 2-3 inches higher than where it started. I'll get a pic of that in a bit.

I wouldn't call it intelligence. I see it as the same as the little gripper tentacles on vines outside. But it is still neato. Cool pics.

That is one nice looking colt. I obsessively watch my corals... Their ability to determine and adjust themselves accordingly amazes me.

Beautiful coral!! I'm having the same thing happen in my tank. My pulsing xenia is moving off the frag plug and up onto a rock about 1/2" above the frag plug. It's amazing! It's about 75% there. So cool!!
