Coral Questions!!!

Hi Guys!

Hope you might be able to help me out...

I want to add some coral to my tank but, I have a few questions before doing so.

First and foremost, I have a flourescent 50/50 light... Would this be OK for leathers and mushroom coral for a bit before I splurge and get better lighting?

Also, how do you acclimate coral - same as fish?

Finally, does it matter when you add coral and fish? For instance, could I acclimate coral and fish at the same time and add them together?

We had this discussion a little before.... I know you are researching which is GOOD! but dont start adding corals quite yet to the tank.....
PCs are easily enough to grow mushrooms, leathers, zoos and many LPS. Heck I even grew some monti digitatas and capricornis under PCs.

As far as acclimation is concerned, I know people that will drip acclimate coral, float acclimate them some just dump a little water in the bag and believe it or not an overwhelming majority of people esp the ones that buy $475 scolymias just toss the coral in the tank, no acclimation at all. Even many of my wholesalers say that coral acclimation isn't too big of a deal.
I personally still float acclimate them and add a little tank water over the course of a half hour or hour.

Adding fish and coral isn't too big of an issue unless you are just plain adding too much at a time and you stress the biological filtration causing an ammonia spike. In the words of the Kingfish, Go slow, let it grow!
