I remember reading somewhere that as you get coraline on your glass and powerheads that if you scrape it off, it will accelerate getting coraline on the rocks. Theory being that the coraline "dust" in the water column would settle on the rocks and 'take root'.

    Is that true??

Nope. I have cranberry (my favorite), purple, pink, green, and one small area of orange.

I've even seen it white. Just depends on nutrient levels, but main calcium. Coraline thrives in high calcium levels but mainly it want stability. That's why coraline is a great sign of an established and stable system.

Is it true? Maybe, but with some stipulations. I have read and talked to LFS buddy and you really would have to shut off your circulation after scraping to allow the algae to settle in the nooks and crannies of the rock, just how long the circulation has to be off is not determined. If you leave circulation on, the chances of the algae attaching itself to the rock is slim at best. I scrape Coraline from my power heads and glass and have done it for years and see no real appreciative increase in Coraline growing on the rock. Water conditions i.e elements and lighting that support Coraline growth are the keys.
