I have read that T5 can be 40% more power efficient than MH.. But my real question is how many US$ per month does it cost to run a 250W MH with an Eballest? Anybody know? :-/

on average you are talking a few dollars a month and you would be better off using a 250 M/H for 7 hrs aday or so rather then some T-5 for 16 hrs aday. I just set up a tank yesterday with 4. 54 watt T-5's I'm fix'en to see for myself what all the raving is about I still think its just a souped up P/C and the only thing the P/C had over a VHO as far as coral keeping was it was a plug and play deal and thats all I see the T-5 as myself. I set up one with the T-5's and one with a 175 M/H and added two sets or the same corals a set of sps and a set of LPS and a set of colts and some buttons. And both system share the same sump , I still prefer the VHO's myself..

Thanks for the info Tangster! I'm glad to hear about this experiment. Different lights, same corals and sump... It seems there is not as much talk about VHO's as there used to be. What is it that you like so much about the VHO's? Obviously you must have good success with them, but I mean growth rates? More happy corals? What is it?
