I going to move my return pump out of my sump, as im gettting heat problems and im thinking this will eleviate some of the problem. Whilst at lowes I was going to buy 3/4 PVC pipe. for the intake of my eheim. But then i saw that they had the "quickfit" connectors (the same ones as on RO/DI systems)> These work with the CPVC piping. However, the 3/4 CPVC is a smaller diameter than the 3/4 PVC. I have a couple of reservations.
    1. Is this going to restrict the fow into my pump?
    2. Are these quickfit connectors (rubber seals) good for saltwater?
    3. Does anyone know of a simple way to plumb this? The eheim has a 3/4 thread on the intake and outlet.

    i appreciate your help

Chlorinated Poly Vinyl Chloride CPVC pipe is not very suited for a marine tank Its made for potable water and in impregnated with antibacterial compounds to keep the water cleaner it will slime over with time. Most compression couplings have or use a nylon ferrel to make the finale seal and lock on plastic piping and also a O ring in the compression couplings..
I ran a 90 for yr with either 6 or 8 48in VHOs with a mag 9 or 12 ? in the sump and a rio 3300 for the skimmer and never a issue with heating the water might want to add a few fans under the hood ? or blowing over the sumps surface Just a thought ?

Tangster, thanks for theinput on the CPVC. Is the regular PVC cement reef safe if left to cure properly?
Im not sure why I have a heat problem. I only run 4 bulbs during the day because of the heat problem. In the morning my room temp is 71 and the tank temp is 78.5. All i have running is an eheim1262, and a euro reef skimmer with the factory sedra pump. During the day i have a rio-aqua powerhead runing also. The tank is next to an AC vent that blows up the side of the tank. (right now it has been running cold air up the side of the tank). The top of the tank is open, and I dont have a hood, I have a tek-light T5, with the legs. The lights are about 4 inches above the water.

Ill runn out to walmart and buy a fan, and see how that does. I have tried a couple of modified computer fans, but i think the transformer that was runing them was generating more heat that the evaporative cooling was offering.

78 is not bad at all I like to keep mine around 77F to 79 F PVC glue and the primer is find to use its totally safe unless you pour it into the tank ): I have used the Oaty Rain and shine and the regular glue and primmer for emergency repairs and with a a hr of set up time and its never caused a problem if fittings are put together properly then the contact area of the glue and primer is so small with any water then its a drop in a big bucket. the rain and shine sets up faster and water will not hurt it and it have its own primer made into it.. FYI..

k9BOLX, 78.5 is not a heat issue. If your tank is hitting the 83+ mark then i would start to worry.

Try to keep your tank at 76 to 80 and you should be fine.

I forgot to mention the bad part. The tank is 78.5 in the morning, but after the lights and the other powerhead have been on all day the temp climbed upto 82.5 yesterday. As you said berlin, thats when i started to worry. I think that i may have found a culprit. The eheim has a small filter inside the housing, it was full of junk. I figure the pump was maybe warming up because it was strugling to pump. Would this be right?

Take that little square sponge filter and toss it in the trash. They will kill the pump , They have caused many a problem over the yrs.. Oceanic's used to make a skimmer the Oceanic's SC 600 I think it was and they came with the Ehiem 1040 and that damn sponge was always a problem LOL and many never figured that the Gray cover popped off to expose the sponge LOL and I should have caught the fact you mentioned the pump LOL old age LOL what can I say..

As for temps I have found that most algae blooms happen at the warmer temps also Cyano's like it better warmer water means less Total dissolve oxygen and after 77 it drops off rather rapidly..And Cyano's love that.
