    Actually mine used to do that every so often as well - from what I remember (been a while) It was only when I first got it and it was getting used to the tank and tankmates.

    Has anyone seen the hippo scrape himself on the sand or rock? I see that in my lfs all the time. Could it be a parasite or just a habit?

    Hippos are notorious for getting ich VERY easily and thats why you see them scratching themselves like that. Mine got it SOOOOOOO bad when I first got him that I was sure I would lose him BUT he survived the breakout!!

    I've actually experienced the same thing! My tang was almost white, all covered with parasites just after the arrival! It has survived :)
