crushed coral?????

    am putting in a refugium n was wondering raither than sand useing crushed coral???? would this still work or should just stick with sand???? am going to have macro algae also..
    also what would be bad if i put the skimmer with the return pump section instead of the ref in side??
    just wondering

    Crushed coral in the fuge can become a detritus trap that can ultimately crash your system with Nitrate production, and unless your fuge is side-by-side with the DT, it will be nearly impossible to vacuum. I'd stick to sand or bare bottom.

    The issue with the skimmer being in the same compartment with the return pump is that a lot of water won't get skimmed at all. For optimum performance, the skimmer should be in the intake compartment, and flow should be close to the skimmer's GPH rating.

    . Put skimmer in return section, or by its self if possible. The idea is to skim the unfiltered water. Fuge should have the least flow from your tank. As far as cc, what bill said.

    CC has been covered but I think the main problem with putting the skimmer next to the return pump is micro bubbles entering the DT.
