About 6 weeks ago we moved, which meant I was able to get a new tank I went from a 65 gal to a 120. After a mini cycle all previous inhabitants were introduced into the new tank. Everyone did great. However, my cuke has disappeared over the last 10 days. I could always count on getting up in the morning and seeing him and his little pile of "pills" where he had been busily working over night.

Yes I do have LR and it is possible that he is down in there somewhere, but should I be concerned? I have been told he can create quite a bit of havoc if he were to die, and there has been no indication of any problem. I enjoyed seeing him so much, but do not want to get another just yet as I am not sure this tank is ready to support 2 cukes.

If you are sure he made the move, and it did not crawl out of tank, he is just hiding somewhere on you.

Any chance you set LR on him?

A dying Cuc can make a tank get ugly quick...I would do some significant water changes until you knew for sure.

He was out and about long after all of the rock was put in. Just 1 day stopped seeing him. I have been checking was my water all seems good. If he died wouldn't I see some untold effect on the fish or water testing?

When a cucumber dies or is threatened it may release a toxin from it's body that will poison your fish. They should not be kept in a tank with fish. I don't believe there will be any sign of this threw testing or any other means until it is too late. John

Florida or Caribbean do not release this toxin, I found that out when mine croaked. I've kept cuke's since I started my tank in 2002 and have had atleast 2 the whole time. And you are correct, you cannot test for this. He may just be hiding or like they said under a rock somewhere. Mine usually disappear for weeks at a time. They find a spot they like and stay there. You really might want to check under the rocks, cause when these things die they kinda melt/disintegrate and they STINK BAD!!!!!

Thanks Fletch that was interesting, some of what I had already read on them. Mine looked just like the Tiger Tail. Not very pretty, but rather interesting to watch. I'm thinking I am gonna tear apart the rock to see if I can find him today.

Cuttingras, as I believe mine to be Caribbean, Maybe I will get lucky if there is bad news.
