After about a month of cycling my reading were 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, and 2 nitrate. I started ghost feeding my tank to maintain the beneficial bacterial until I get fish, which will be in another month or so. I noticed today that my nitrite went up to .01 and my nitrate is 5. Ammonia remains at 0. Is it normal from me to starting seeing nitrite again? BTW, I added the flake food yesterday. Thanks!

new tank syndrome, so kinda, especially how you are doing it, I'd at least grab a few hermits or snails to get some poo kicking in the tank and build up the population;)

Normal.... it takes a while to get things in balance. Any time you make an addition, fish, ghost feeding etc, it will take your system a little while to catch up.

Happened to me when i was starting out. Add some hardy inverts like snails and hermit crabs and keep an eye on that nitrite.. mine went down eventually
