    Once my nitrites hit zero would it be okay to do a 50% wc followed up by a series of 20% changes over several days and how low should I try to get my nitrates? I will probably do a fish only tank for awhile at least until I feel we have a good handle on everything.

    I wouldn't get too crazy with the water changes. Do a partial change and then see where the levels are at.

    Did about a 50% water change and my levels are ammonia=0, nitrites=0 and nitrates~15.

    Forgot to add, I would really like to thank everyone for your help.
