Found this guy on my tank wall after lights out.
Hes about an 1/8 of an inch in diameter. Hes only three legged. Looks like this guy.
Internet sites label him as an astrean star.

Anybody know anything about these. Safe, kill em? Whats up?

i think i had one of those on my wall the other day. my tank is 6 months old, and i introduced mine with some caulerpa (originally in the refugium), haven't seen it since then.

He may be just going through an asexual split. mine looked like he was.

i'm new to the hobby but maybe it would be safer in your refugium (granted you have one).

Well, there are so many astrea star species that are very hard to tell apart. Most are harmless. Some are bad.
Some eat algae, some like corals ;) Being that its on your glass its probably a harmless variety, but keep an eye on any/all corals to make sure they are not gathering up on them

I quit worrying about them. I've never seen one that looks like that though. I'd yank that particular one out and toss it.

Better to be safe than sorry.

    Thanks.

On a side note, i started iodine dosing today to help with the xenia. I bought a Kent marine "tech I"

Is that what most people use?

    Thanks

I've never dosed iodine and my xenia is stupid. Pulses 24/7.
EDIT: I've been meaning to say I like the sig. Makes me wanna go take a pic of my yota and post in "my ride" thread.

My xenia pulses 24 7 as well, but is stays so low to the rock and barely even looks like its trying to stretch out for anything. When it was in the lfs, it was fully extended and pulsing. For some reason, mine doesnt extend. Whether at the top near the light, or at the bottom. I thought iodine would help...

    Am i wrong?

I posted it on that "ride thread" at the very end. I think i was the last poster on that one. It has a lot more custom work since then, ill update the pics as well when i get a chance.

    Thanks btw

My xenia was stupid too. I dosed with iodine and it never pulsed since it left the LFS. It eventually shriveled up to nothing and dissappeared.

And the star. I have a couple in my nano. They never seem to get bigger than pretty much what you have pictured. It never harmed anything. Don't know where they go to either, never seen a big one like it, so they either die or I'm seeing the same couple stars for the past year- atleast
