I guess that could be it, the one that is still alive would nip at the other one a lot, but everything I have read about clownfish lead me to believe that it was just the dominant one. I'm going to call my lfs today and see if they will take it for trade. Not really sure what to start with now.

Is there any kind of fish you've always had your eye on? A Damsel or green Chromis are pretty hardy. Not sure what your skill level is yet though.

Do you need to do anything? Why not leave that clown in the tank and let things progress for a while. Everything in this hobby takes time.

Except that adding the most aggressive fish to a tank first is never a good idea...

Ok, i'll take the bait. If it is parasites or disease, swapping out that clown for new fish isn't going to do one iota of good.

Disease or not, starting a tank off with an aggressive fish is not going to lead to success. Either way my opinion is the clown should be returned or rehomed. If it is disease (such as Ich), the OP could then leave the tank fallow for 2 months...

I used to keep freshwater tanks, and have experienced an outbreak of Ich, and unless it looks different in saltwater than in freshwater, then it definitely wasn't Ich.

Like I said in a different thread the maroon clowns were an impulse buy, what I really wanted to do was have a fairly peaceful tank or a saltwater "community" tank which I would later like to add some coral to once I feel like I have enough experience. So I will be returning the remaining clown and I will be looking for some fairly peaceful fish that I can keep in a 55g tank.

I do like the blue/green reef chromis, dottybacks, firefish, and there was a paired up orange spotted goby and pistol shrimp at my lfs the other day.

It sucks that I lost one of the maroons, but it will probably be better for my tank and a lesson learned for me to definitely do research on all the live stock I want to add to my tank before I buy.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Marine Ich is a completely different organism that FW and requires completely different treatment, but you're right is looks like grains of salt on FW and marine fish.

Maroons are one of my favorite clowns but yeah they turn into big bad she devils once they reach maturity. I once had to get rid of a female because nothing could be added to the tank without her killing it and that include young immature clowns.

Make your Dottyback choice carefully as they two can become nightmares. The same
can be said for 6-8 line Wrasses.

Fire Fish, Royal Grammas, Chalk bass, Yellow Watchman Gobies (stay away from Sleeper Gobies). Some Dwarf Angels are great fish as well.

You can have a peaceful tank with some Clown types just avoid Maroons, Tomato and Clarkii if you want a more passive Clown.
