After posting some posts because my Angel was not eating I could not find him today and was able to see a Black Emerald Crab eating him. I had him for a week and thought it was wierd he would only stay in the confined area in the back and never eat prepared foods. Now I have my 2 oscellaris Clowns . BiColor Blenny and a Mandarin. I will either get one more fish or get rid of the large mean Clown and get 2 fish. What do people think? I'll never know if the clownfish scared him and kept him hiding or he just refused to eat and then died.

I would get another one but I am not sure if I should remove the clown first. I would think that an Oscellaris Clown could not pick on a Flame Angel. If I get rid of the 1 Clown then what 2 fish should I add? I am unable to get his dead body out but I have 2 emerald crabs, a serpent start, hermits and astrea snails that should eat him pretty fast.

fish might have just been stressed. Did you witness the clown picking on the angel? Sorry for your loss.

No I never did see the Clown pick on the Angel. Afterd I acclimated the Angel and put him in he went right to the back and only came out very rarely but not too fat from the back of the tank. I haqd a Fairy Wrasse for about 6 months that the Clown did pick on some times then one day the Wrasse went into the rocks and then I found him dead. Hard to say if the Clown caused these deaths.

I think sometimes it's hard to tell what happened to a fish before you got them. I bet if you got another his personality will be completely different.
    Sorry for the loss.

I know there has been many stories about flame angels not being as hardy as they used to be. No one is sure if it's from the way they are being caught or another reason. Many of the lfs here have become more hesitant about bring them in for the same reason, so you may just have had one of those ones. If you didn't see it getting picked on and it had hiding places that may be the case. As it stands lately, there are many that do well for months and then just die for no apparent reason.

My tank is a 46 gallon. Supposedly he was eating in the store.

One thing I've learned is always make sure the fish is eating before buying. If you ask, the employee will feed the fish for you. Make sure that the one you like is eating a bunch, and not just tasting and spitting out the food. The one time I brought home a fish I did not check to see if it was eating never did eat in my tank, and the employee said it was eating at the store.
