I still can't believe that Bradley Delp locked himself in his bathroom with two lit charcoal grills. Hate to be morbid, but if they were glowing white, and not smoking, it wouldn't have been too unpleasant. Carbon monoxide. .. odorless, and you'd pass out first.

Never knew the guy from Big Country killed himself. Wow! He had a blood alcohol level of .279%. That's 3 1/2 times the legal limit in most states. I suppose alcohol poisoning might have been not too far behind if his attempt at self strangulation didn't work.

What I learned from all the rock and rollers who killed themselves was that money is certainly not the be-all end-all in the road to happiness. If money makes one silly with happiness, then it's a wonder that Donald Trump other famous millionaires so often look miserable.

I totally agree with this to a point. Money won't buy happiness but when you throw the fame into the mix the pressure has got to be unbearable. I couldn't even imagine it. Not being able to leave your home without some idiot sticking a camera in your face. Or leasing a pilot and helicopter to fly over your home to get pics. It would be horrible. Alanis Morrisette is another of my absolute favorites from the 90s but she just couldn't take the pressure of fame and basically just quit. It's no wonder that Johnny Depp is a recluse, owns several homes and never reveals in which one he is staying at any given time. Where's the life in that?

@ divott *edit (ooops horkn my bad my apologies) Michael Hutchence...David Cartadine....EWWWWWWWWW! ;D definitely not the last memory I want to leave the world. LOL

I was about 25-26 LOL. That album was a last ditch effort to save themselves imho and what a disappointment it was after all the hype it got. LOL

Yeah, I actually didn't open the thread the first time I saw the title because I thought it WAS about motley crue. :cheesy:

For me personally, I have to put Michael Hutchence and Layne Staley right up there with Kurt Cobain.

All three had big influences on me at various stages of my development.
I saw Nirvana in Chicago at a small bar right after the album "Nevermind" was released. I was a huge Nirvana fan and finally was able to see them. Little did I know exactly how massive they would get when "smells like teen spirit" got released a couple weeks later. Yes, I still have the T shirt.
INXS was my favorite band as a younger boy. I think the first tape I bought was an INXS tape. It was either that or Def Leppard (or Ratt).
Then there is/ was AIC. I don't know if their music was really influential to me as I am not "Down in a hole" 8), but I sure loved the music and it brings back some fond, and some not so fond early adult memories.

I liked Sublime a lot. To a lesser extent, I liked Blind Melon, but both of those bands were not around as long as the others I mentioned above. Kind of a flash in the pan thing. Sublime had many awesome songs, and Blind Melon had one good song.

Heck, INXS and AIC are still around.

Regarding money and happiness. Extremes of too much, or not enough are not good for the soul. People's opinions of what exactly is to much, and too little can vary. But it's the middle ground that makes happy people.

I liked INXS alot and wasn't putting Michael down. It's the way he died that is disturbing to me. Kick was released my freshman year and we wore a couple of those albums out. I was very glad to see Elegantly Wasted come out after so many years with nothing new from them. It's too bad that the road led him where it did because I'm sure they would still be on the charts today.
I feel the same about the 3 in the vids. Sublime and Blind Melon never blew up like Nirvana only because of the deaths of the two front men. Melons second album was kind of weak imo so they may have fallen off but I'm willing to bet that Sublime would still be around.
