Actually there are more children now than ever. The problem is it isn't as safe to go around asking for candy from your neighbors as it used to be, and everyone is a lot more paranoid.

I still go with my nephew trick or treating, we probably had around 50 kids show up at our house, but in our neighborhood we used to have 200+ in the years past.

A lot of people are doing the "safe halloween" thing at churches, malls, or disney world.

It's not dead in our neighborhood! I just spent 3 hours sitting in my driveway (making RO/DI water LOL) handing out candy. WAY more kids than actually live in this neighborhood of 220 homes. They drive in & park at the end of the neighborhood & raid us of our candy!

The reason is because of the perception that it's not as safe, regardless as to the reality.

We live in a small town/village and thats how it is here,we get swamped, all the parents from the city(5 miles away)come to our town and you can go through some candy. But i swear i see more older kids(way to old to be trick or treating)every year running all over carrying big ole' pillow cases for candy bags.

Thee were way too many adults carrying their own bags claiming they had a "sick kid." Either my small town has a quite severe outbreak of the flu or they just wanted my goodies! 8)

And my town is small too, sandwiched between two larger cities, so everyone comes here.

I stopped "trick or treating" a few years back. I went with friends & always had lots of fun. No one comes to our house anymore though; we just left our lights off this year.

People think Herbert the Pervert is gonna pop out around the corner & take your kid. Or maybe its because we moved & now live in the so called, "ghetto", of the town.
