would it be a usable idea to use the output of my skimmer to feed my DIY denitrator, or be better to use a tap off the main tank return line to pump water into it??

    TIA

I would think it better to take untreated water.

You have a sump ? all you need to do is use some airline tubing as a siphon ..

yeah, the skimmer produces highly O2 water. Thats probably not good for the denitrator.

    thanks...

If you use airline tubing as a siphon, make sure the intake is high enough that you won't over flow the sump if you loose power.

    aaaaaaahh....what? I dont understand the airline siphon thing...my tubing is 3/8" , denitrator is 3 1/2 feet tall...probably 100 bioballs in it.

I've now decided to supply the denitrator from my return supply using 1/2 PVC with a cut off valve feeding it. That way I can regulate input to the denitrator, only getting enough power from my return pump to get the drip I need out...right??

i used water from my skimmer for years to feed my coiled denitrator and it worked great....however. if your skimmer is a needlewheel skimmer, it won't work, if your skimmer is a venturi model it will work well.

hey all, changed the plans. got it hooked up off the main return line and running but have some questions:

according to the pic below: I have a valve at the source(black valve,my main return after plumbed) then water runs through the denitrator , then back into the wet/dry through a smaller valve (blue).

do I even need a valve at the end? can I just use the source valve to control water flow? or use the output valve for tweaking the drip?

    please give some advice...

    TIA
