    Well.......
My husband is great with DIY projects & looked at a variety of plans & made a denitrator.

I do have a couple of questions:

We have a wet/dry filter & want to run the water out of the sump with a small pump & then run it back into the part of the wet/dry where the water comes in from the main tank, but before the water goes through the filter pad so we can aerate the water.

    1. If he puts a flow valve from the pump to the CD, will it hurt the pump?

    2. Is it ok to run the water that has gone through the CD onto the tray that holds the filter pad?

    3. He decided to put the coil on the outside of the PVC. Is there a way he can make it work, or should he start over & put the coil on the inside?

Thanks for your suggestions / comments!!

Lots of opinions on coils in or out of the CD...

Here is the one I made, coils on the outside, because I could not get a fitting locally to pass the tubing through to the inside, and instead of Bio-Balls I chose Bio-Bale...

It has been setup for a couple of months, running on a "seed tank" as we build out a new 120g setup, so far, NO3 is 0.... though there is only about 100 lb of live rock and only 4 fish in the 20g seed tank/10g sump....

So I'd say it is working... but the risks: 1) with tubing on the outside, could be more fragile and prone to damage if roughly handled. 2) Tangester has mentioned that in his experience top exit (while they vent air well from the body, which is the reason that I chose a top vent/return) he has seen them plug up over time and so he prefers a side exit for the return...

Tangester, jump in and correct me if I miss stated that....(I am working from memory here)....
