Denitrifier - Carbon or No?

    So I'm finally getting around to building my denitrifier and my design has room for a media chamber. I'm thinking that a carbon chamber would be a good add. I can't think of how this would be a negative, but then I don't know the finer points of the chemistry involved.

    Does anyone see a negative of adding carbon to a denitrifier? Add it it before or after the denitrifying coil?
