This is offically what im calling it now. I hate this stuff with a passion and am on a quest to rid myself of this. Im going to the store tomorrow to get a phosphate test kit to see if that is what is causing my outbreaks. If it is high then im going to run a reactor to lower it. the nitrates have dropped off, they are at 20 right now considering they were at 60 last week. Im just so over this I really hope its the phosphates, what level should I be looking for or what levels are high.

is your tank in a cycle??? you should run a full spectrum of perameters. what color is the algae? can you post any pics? as far as test kits dont skimp on quality. its not a bad idea to have a phos reactor any way. what kind of filtration do you currently run?

What are all params and chemistry in tank, what inhabitants do you have, how long are your lights on, what's in fuge, is there enough flow in the areas where cyano is. Do test for phosphates and post results. I had too little flow and too much fish food when I had cyano outbreak. Lowered food, raised flow, no problem now with cyano. Hang in there!!

K went got test today, phosphates are zero, nitrates are 20, ammon and nitrite are 0, kh is 8dkh. Have 2 clowns, 1 sailfin, plenty of flow, im not kidding the cyano is like crazy looking hair algea and not coming off the rocks even in direct flow of my k4. I feed every other day, lights are on 6 hours for the super whites, actinics are on for 8. Its not the bulbs due to the fixture being brand new. the fuge has mangroves, dsb, cheato and its completly covered in this ****. IDK if I have some mutated friggin cyano or what but since phosphates are non existent then im prolly gonna pass on the reactor.

lol umm holy ****, I had the circle things you put on your powerheads thinking they would be better. Well i was sitting here looking at my tank and was like hmm let me see what there like without it. Well sure enough take them off and wow like almost double the flow now so im guessing it wasnt enough flow in my tank with the circle things on the powerheads. We will see!~

You may be reading 0 phosphates, but the cyno could just be using it up as it's produced. I would do a reactor, but the choice is up to you. Flow could definitely be an issue. Now, do you have cyno and hair algae? Or just cyno? Cyno looks like hair algae if you let it grow, at least it gets stringy.
