My tank has been up and running for 4 weeks now. I've had a blue damsel in for two weeks and all my parameters have been at 0 for 2 1/2 weeks. I'm getting a pretty good diatom bloom now. I've read where this goes away on its own and I don't need to do anything. When I start doing water changes ? Now or wait until the bloom is gone.

I would wait until the bloom goes away, but that's just me.

I know it varies but how long should the bloom take to go away ?

a week to a month-ish, depending out water param's. I prob wouldn't do one until you were getting ready to add your next 2 fish after you return your damsel;)

Well all diatoms are gone now and everything is still at 0. Took about two weeks for them to vanish.
