ok i know this has probably been answered many times before. i am cycling my tank now or should i say have been for a few weeks. i had just live sand and base rock for a couple weeks and just about 3 or 4 days ago i added 10lbs of live rock to my 125lbs of base. yesterday i noticed that diatoms were showing up and then today its really popping up. i have no fish or cleaner crew yet because of cycling my tank and im sure the growth of diatoms during cycling is supposed to happen but my question is how bad does it get and how long should it last. my kh is 161.1, phosphate is 0.0, nitrates is 0 and calcium is 460.

They usually take a week or 2 to go away. They could cover quite a bit of the tank.

As in almost everything. Sand, rock, powerheads, overflow, heater, etc...
