The thing with this is that if you have fish in your tank already, they can be hosts and going fallow for 6wks might not do anything for you, especially with that Blue Tang around (ich magnet). Green Chromisis are much hardier, so you may get lucky and ich not hosts those fish to reproduce.

Sorry, hope not to sound argumentative, but ich can be brought in. Ich can live in gills and not be seen. It also may be in the skin but not seen until it's fat after feeding on the fish (Trophont stage). It can also be in a free swimming stage (Theront stage) in the water and be brought in that way. Ich is not always present in tanks and can be removed, if done correctly. It's a parasite that's brought in.

Yup, stress reduces immune system and makes them more vulnerable.

That link would be for freshwater, saltwater ich is Cryptocaryon Irritans. I'll PM you with a good read on this stuff (unless linking to other forums is allowed, moderators?).

okay, so here is another interesting find....There is a half eaten, dead wasp (hornet) in the tank. Had my house painted last week so the windows were open without screens for some time. Must have gotten in then..

Any thought on if that may have had an impact on the water? Perhaps the venom? For the record the Kole Tang looked like crap before the wasp...but still...something out of the ordinary anyway.

side comment...it was the outside of the house being painted, not the inside, and the fish room as no windows...so not worried about this being an issue of paint in the tank - mainly mentioned the house painting to explian how a wasp got in the house...

Thoughts on what to do? Water changes and a ton of carbon?

    next step

Just my own thoughts about it all.

I guess you took out 1/2 eaten bee/hornet...IMO the fish that died took the hornet as food.

    Get the bug out.
Do the normal thing of 10-20% WC
then go slow and see it in a few days.
Test everything in a while after the water change etc..

    should be good IMO,
    Mike
